Purple Belt Requirements
Purple Belt Requirements.
Science of Jiu Jitsu Team Graduation Requirements Program
developed by professor Mario Rodríguez.
For being awarded the purple belt the blue belt should work progressively in the following areas:
Beginning to connect and chain techniques and positions :
- Chaining submissions
- Combining sweeps with submissions
- Combining positional transitions with sweeps and submissions
Show combinations in the following areas:
- Takedowns
- Positional Submissions
- Guard work (sweeps, back takes, submissions)
- Combination of different guard passing mechanics and approaches (pressure and loose passing) as an approach against persisting in applying one pass in an specific situation.
Being consistent with the action reaction principle for getting technical goals and solving sparring situations, so it is not necessary using too much strength and not forcing the opening needed for the technique.
Opportunity mindset as the ability to change Plan A to take advantage of the situations generated and available while looking for the A Plan.
Focus mindset for working on weak areas and specialization.
Open Minded approach in sparring for working from disadvantageous positions that help him to improve in weak areas.
Calmness and correct technical work for escaping positions and submissions.
Working in this areas will be under the supervision of the professor and will become the criteria for earning progressively each of the four stripes in the blue belt and the final change to purple belt.
The journey in the improvement of these skills is very personal so you will need to work closely with the professor and setting goals to achieve in the six months periods between graduations.
Work on stablishing the areas to work on after each graduation and in having the most clear possible criteria for evaluation the evolution in the achievement of the goals.
Remember that positional and situational sparring in classes and graduation day will be the most valuable tool to evaluate the results of your continuous work in the areas you are trying to improve and that the "personal time" at the begining of the class is the most valuable time to work with focus and discipline in the problems and specialization you need in the blue belt to get to the purple belt.
